Support Coordination is a specialised service within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) that helps participants understand, implement, and make the most of their NDIS plan. A Support Coordinator works alongside you to build your capacity, connect you with the right supports, and ensure your funded services align with your goals.
Whether you’re new to the NDIS or looking to strengthen your independence, Support Coordination can make navigating the system simpler, clearer, and more empowering.
1. Understand Your NDIS Plan
Your NDIS plan can feel overwhelming at first. A Support Coordinator explains your funding categories, what each budget can be used for, and how to maximise the supports available.
2. Connect You With the Right Providers
They help you find service providers—such as therapists, support workers, housing services, community programs, and more—based on your needs, goals, and preferences.
3. Build Your Capacity and Independence
Support Coordinators encourage skill-building, helping you learn to manage your plan, make decisions confidently, and become more independent over time.
4. Coordinate Multiple Supports
They ensure all your supports work together smoothly. This includes communicating with providers, organising services, and resolving any issues that arise.
5. Assist With Plan Reviews
Support Coordinators help you prepare for your NDIS plan review by gathering reports, discussing goals, and ensuring you receive the right level of funding for your needs.
6. Help You Navigate Challenges
If something changes—such as living circumstances, health needs, or service availability—they guide you through the process and help you adapt your supports.
There are three levels of Support Coordination funded under the NDIS:
1. Support Connection
Helps you connect with providers and understand your plan, usually for people needing minimal assistance.
2. Coordination of Supports
A higher level of coordination to help manage services, build capacity, and ensure your supports work well together.
3. Specialist Support Coordination
For participants with complex needs, requiring a qualified specialist (such as a social worker or psychologist) to manage challenges and ensure stable support.

Support Coordination is not automatically included in every NDIS plan—it must be funded under Capacity Building supports. Participants may receive funding based on factors such as:
If it’s not currently in your plan, you can request it at your plan review.
Support Coordination ensures your NDIS plan is not just a document—but a practical, tailored roadmap you can use to improve your daily life. With the right support, participants experience better outcomes, stronger community connections, and greater confidence navigating their NDIS journey.
